OneNote 2019 Essentials

OneNote 2019 Essentials is intended for people in a variety of roles and fields who have a basic understanding of Microsoft Office 2019 and want to incorporate digital note-taking and note collaboration by using Microsoft OneNote 2019. In addition to creating and modifying OneNote notebooks, this course will introduce learners to inserting images and embedding files into notebooks, categorizing content, sharing content with OneDrive®, and exporting content to other file formats.


To ensure success in this course, learners should have end-user skills in a current version of Windows that include opening and closing applications, navigating basic file structures, and managing files and folders. Previous experience with OneNote is not required; however, having a basic understanding of the Microsoft Office productivity suite would be beneficial.

Learning Modules

101: Getting Started with OneNote

For learners who wish to learn how navigate the OneNote interface, understand the OneNote environment and the components of a notebook, and add notes and adding other content as these are the building blocks for learning OneNote. In this module, learners will navigate the OneNote 2016 environment, use page templates to quickly create a pre-designed notebook page and customize the user interface to suit their working style and preferences.
102: Adding and Formatting Notebook Content
For learners who know how to navigate a notebook and wish to learn how to add content to a notebook and also note entries for a specific look and feel to make the content easier to read and edit. In this module, learners will change the appearance of notebook content, add pictures, audio clips, and videos to a notebook, quickly insert notes and links into your notebook, and add special symbols, pen marks, and drawn shapes to notebooks.
103: Embedding and Attaching Files

For learners who know how to add content to a notebook and wish to learn how to embed and create links to files in other Office applications. In this module, learners will work with embedded Excel spreadsheets in a notebook and attach files and printouts to OneNote notebooks.
104: Organizing and Searching Notebooks
For learners who know how to create content and manage notebook files and wish to learn how to use provides tags to make notebook content searchable. In this module, learners will use tags to categorize and find notes, and organize and search for specific content in notebooks.
105: Finalizing a Notebook
For learners who know how to create content, manage notebook files, and work with tags in a notebook and wish to learn how to run spell checker, set up print and page layout settings, and configure notebook properties, including password protection. In this module, learners will proof and print a notebook, and configure notebook properties and password protection.
106: Managing Notebook Files
For learners who know how to create content, manage notebook files, work with tags, and configure password protection in a notebook and wish to learn how to export content from OneNote notebooks, and back up and restore notebook content. In this module, learners will export content from OneNote notebooks and back up and restore notebook content.
107: Using Outlook to Send and Share OneNote Content
For learners who know how to create content, manage notebook files, work with tags, and configure password protection in a notebook and wish to learn how to share and collaborate with others using OneNote. In this module, learners will use Outlook to send OneNote content to others and share notebooks to enable collaboration among multiple people.

System Requirements

Learners' PCs should meet the following requirements: 

  • 2 GB of available hard disk space 
  • SVGA monitor at 1024 × 768 or higher resolution
  • A version of Windows support by Microsoft
  • The latest version of Chrome browser (preferred browser)

Dual Screens

For the best learning experience in our instructor-led training portal, we recommend learners use two screens for training.

  1. On the Remote Lab screen, learners will complete training exercises under the watchful eye of their instructor.
  2. On the Virtual Classroom screen, learners will see and hear their instructor as they follow the instructor's step-by-step directions. The virtual classroom screen can be a big screen in a conference room or a learner's second monitor.

Instructor-led Portal System Check

Our system check will check the readiness of your learners' browser, internet connectivity, screen resolution, microphone and camera. The test link will be provided to you prior to your class.
